Why do I love "Moneyball" the movie so much?

3 reasons:

1. Its a great story about the underdog overcoming the odds to find success.

2. It opened my eyes about Data. It raised my curiosity about what the Data Analytics world was all about and led me to read countless books, watch TED talks and listen to Podcasts on this topic.

3. Most importantly, the movie inspired me to think about how data analytics can be a force for change and improvement. It inspired me to think about how data can help clarify our understanding of how things operate (data visualisation), identify hidden patterns that inform us the best way forward to achieve optimal decision making.

Earlier in my career as a Finance professional, I was trained to focus on reporting history/past transactions with accuracy and efficiency. Data Analytics broadened my thinking and helped me embrace ambiguity, experiment with messy data and to hypothesize more and therefore become more forward focused.

So its fair to say "Moneyball" had a profound impact on my career as it inspired me to learn more.

Do you have a movie you watched or a book you read that had a similar impact to your life? I'd love to hear your story.
